It was sad to hear the news of Joe Ades' passing. For many years I listened to his sidewalk sales pitch for vegetable peelers. He was one of those fixtures at Union Square Park that I imagined would always be there. The strange and sad irony is that I saw him practically every week and I never managed to photograph him. And never did I imagine that an elegant sidewalk salesman would give me such a huge lesson in seizing the moment. Especially for me, the person who teaches a professional class called "On Seeing What's Right in Front of You." Lesson learned Joe. Thanks too for Chris Schneider's photo from the New York Times.
